Tuesday 3rd July 2012 – 22nd meeting of 2012

A smaller group than normal met at Charing Cross Station and then went to the Crypt at St Martin’s for a coffee and catch up chat. Some of our ladies had returned from sunnier climates and we listened enviously to talk of too much heat, something we are lacking here at the moment!

After our coffee we made our way to The Mall side of Trafalgar Square to see two of the BT Art boxes in the exhibition which are being auctioned for Childline. The telephone box decorated as Big Ben was very good and the knitted effect Dial M for Monster was amusing.

These are BT K6 red telephone boxes which have been decorated by different artists to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  The K6 was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to commemorate King George V’s Silver Jubilee. They have been placed around London until July 16th when they will be auctioned off for Childline charity at Sotheby’s.

We then made our way to Covent Garden where we saw another dozen boxes all decorated in different styles and representing different organisations including Heart radio, Accessorise, Harvey Nicholls etc. A very striking one was Ted Baker’s completely gold box.

After a gentle walk around we then made our way back to Charing Cross and luckily just about beating the rain!
