Tuesday 18th September 2012 – 26th meeting of 2012

Today was a completely different day for us! One of our ladies this week had a special birthday so we met for a lunchtime meal to celebrate.  Luckily all the group could be with us today!

We meet at London Bridge and walked to The City Hall, home of the London Assembly and Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. Although this is the working heart of the London Assembly is also has a very nice cafe that is open to the public. We have been here a few times before for a coffee and now have our own affectionate name for it ‘Boris’s gaffe’! This is a very open building, light, airy and a good atmosphere. The security is present with bag search etc on the doors but once in, the cafe and public areas are nice.

From here we walked along the river to Brown’s restaurant at Butler’s Wharf. This is lovely part of London. The development of the river here is superb and the river is opened up with fabulous views of Tower Bridge and the City sky line. The weather was lovely, sunny and warm. At the restaurant we had a lovely circular table in a quieter part of the restaurant.  Brown’s is one of many restaurants along this stretch of the river beside Tower of Bridge.  The views of the river from here are stunning.

We ordered our meals and of course, wine to celebrate.  We had compiled a large present bag full of many small gifts from different parts of the world which we had collected between us from our holidays. It also had many silly, funny gifts we had been carefully putting together with our special lady in mind! Presents from the bag were given during the meal and we had great fun watching her opening, wearing, using and modelling them.  The meal was very good and we also enjoyed a special chocolate birthday cake home made by one of our group.  Delicious!!

After a really great time which was so funny with good food, wine and company, we made our way back to London Bridge and our trains home.  A great day was had by all, including hopefully the birthday girl!!
