Tuesday 4th December 2012 36th meeting of 2012
Coffee was partaken in a lovely old pub near the station.
Firstly, we walked through Kensington Gardens to ‘Albert’ memorial, crossed the road and went behind The Royal Albert Hall and turned left ending up in Exhibition Road. A de-tour was then take into V & A to buy tickets for an exhibition that we will be going to in January.
Onto Cromwell Gardens and left into the Ennismore estate. Some beautiful brightly painted mews houses and lovely courtyards. Through ‘the hole in the wall’ (boundary of Rutland Estate) into Knightsbridge. More squares leading to Harrods. When skirting Harrods one of our members was asked if she would agree to have her photo taken. A Baltic magazine wanted pictures of what Londoners were wearing. It was her impeccable dress sense!
Forward to Belgravia where there were lots of Embassies. It became obvious we were not good on identifying national flags! We passed the Grenadier pub with its sentry box outside. In Kinnerton Street we passed another pub which one of our members remembered from a walk many years ago but had never been able to find it again! You just never know what will turn up on our walks!
More interesting courtyards and back to Knightsbridge station. An informative and enjoyable walk. This is the second walk we have done which is from a book that one of our ladies purchased earlier this year. It was very good and I feel sure we will enjoy many more from her book once the weather improves!
