Tuesday 10th December – 39th meeting of 2013
As today was the last time we would meet this year we had planned to have a Christmas lunch and our usual Secret Santa Present.
We had a table booked in a private room for lunch at Coombe Lodge, Croydon at 1 o’clock. One of our ladies had kindly invited us to her house for coffee and mince pies at 11 so we meet and had a good chat. We had a full complement of 9 today so we piled into two cars and arrived in time. The room was beautiful. Coombe Lodge is a Grade 11 listed Georgian red brick mansion built around 1760 and is now a restaurant and pub. A fabulous setting for Christmas lunch as there were many decorations, trees, baubles and tinsel! What more could you ask for!
We had a lovely lunch. Food was excellent, wine flowed, crackers were pulled and hats put on the heads! Then the moment we all love the Secret Santa time! The rules for buying this gift were, only spend £5, it must be funny, silly, useless or risqué! No pressure there then! Quite a challenge but as usual we all managed to provide the perfect gift and all different. Amongst the menagerie, a turkey hat, the biggest biro ever made, Minnie Mouse fan, mechanical man, deck chair head rest to name a few. We thoroughly enjoyed this and there was very much laughter so good that we had a room of our own and couldn’t annoy the other diners!
We chatted about all and everything and about the good year we have had together exploring London. We collected all our bits and pieces and made our way home after a fabulous lunch.
This was our last meeting of 2013 but we will be back in 2014 raring to go and planning all our visits to good old London Town.
So I will end by wishing you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy New Year!
