Tuesday 13th May – 16th meeting of 2014
Off on a shopping experience today to John Lewis Oxford Street where to mark the 150th Anniversary a roof garden had been created. Our usual meeting place Charing Cross and bus to Oxford Street into John Lewis. The first stop was the coffee shop for a drink and catch up chat and being fresh from our Scotland trip there was lots to talk about!
From here we went to fifth floor and onto the roof where a fabulous garden has been created. The beds of roses, lavender grasses and wild flowers have been designed by Tony Hall, 27, the Royal Horticultural Society’s Young Designer of the Year. A lovely area which included a Juice Bar and sitting area. The view was fabulous. The London Eye and The Shard could be spotted along with many cranes that were moving creating more buildings in the heart of the capital. We walked around the garden and admired the living wall and other features. It started to rain so we made our way back into the store having an informative chat with the two men at the exit.
From here we made our way to the third floor where there was an exhibition explaining how John Lewis first started, the changes through the years, to the modern day. A fascinating exhibition. The first room displayed the first shop which was a drapery/haberdashery store. There were many exhibits on show and some brought back many memories to us especially the Silver Cross pram!
We then had a short walk around today’s store and then made our way home after a good albeit wet morning!
