Tuesday 27th January – 3rd meeting of 2015
Our usual meeting place today Charing Cross, eight of us and we went straight down to the Embankment for the District Line to South Kensington. The train was very busy and we got talking to a lady who worked at Natural History Museum so we had a very informative chat! As usual the station was thronging with school children on visits to the Museums so the walk through the tunnel was crowded. We managed somehow to get split but met up again outside the Museum. Luckily no problem!! It is good to see all the children so excited, enjoying the outings and so lovely that our excellent museums are used so much and put to good use in the education of our young people.
This is an annual event for us and our fourth visit. It is always well worth a visit as the photographs are amazing. The photographs are displayed in the different categories and the two sections for young people 10-14 years and under 17 always are outstanding, in fact probably my favourite sections.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the exhibition and they was a film show showing photographs from the first exhibition through the years until today. This really showed the advancement there has been in photography. The old photos taken before digital days are not as sharp and clear as the present day.
We all really enjoy this exhibition and we all seem to have a favourite photo which of course differs for us all! We had a look around the shop and made a few purchases. There was a very good selection of post cards, cards, books etc all displaying different photographs on display. We then made our ways home after a very good morning.
