Tuesday 12th May – 16th meeting of 2015
The plan today was to finish the walk from the trusty London Walks book, The Inns of Court, of which we did the first half on Tuesday 24th March but got distracted by The London Silver Vaults!
We met as usual at Charing Cross and the plan was to get the underground to Chancery Lane but this was not so easy. Because of engineering works stations were closed and not interchangeable so we eventually got out at Holborn and walked to Chancery Lane to start the walk. This took quite some time but we got going on the walk and as it was a bright sunny day all was well. We walked past The Patent Office, Staple Inn buildings, Breams buildings, Bell Yard, Chancery Lane arriving at Fleet Street. Here we all decided that we needed a coffee and cake so we found a nice cafe and sat and enjoyed a sit down and chat!
From here we walked around Inner Temple past the Temple church used by the Knight’s Templar and famously in Da Vinci Code books. This area is really a unique part of London. The buildings are beautiful and its history amazing. It is so quiet and yet you are a stones through from Fleet Street and Strand which are two of the most busiest streets in London Town!
We finished the walk by walking down Middle Temple Lane onto Strand and walked up the Strand to Charing Cross Station where we boarded our trains home. A very good morning and we certainly did a walk, it must have been about two and half miles in all or possibly even three with all the problems – well that’s what my legs were telling me!! But then again we call ourselves a walking group and today we proved it!!
