Tuesday 29th September – 29th meeting of 2015

A meeting of six today but one of our ladies who had come decided, due to a back problem, she would not do the walk so we went straight to St Martin’s Crypt Cafe to have a coffee and catch-up.

After our farewells we got the Bakerloo line to Piccadilly Circus to start our walk which is from our trusty London Walking book! Starting place the fabulous Piccadilly. This street is so elegant and the shops and restaurants are well worth a look. The walk took us past Fornum and Mason with windows decorated for Harvest Festival and Ritz Hotel then we turned into Half Moon Street and wound our way around the streets walking through Burlington Arcade which contains many many jewellery shops. We also went through Royal Arcade. There were many blue plaques in this area which has housed famous people of yesteryear and today. This walk took us through some beautiful streets with many elegant Georgian, Regency and Victorian buildings. Berkeley Square Gardens was very busy and looked as if a temporary structure was being erected or maybe taken down, perhaps something to do with London Fashion Week.

The weather was nice. Warm and sunny so London really looked at its best. The roads were very busy and as a pedestrian we really needed to be alert!

A really enjoyable morning. We have seen some of the area on previous walks but it is a lovely part of London with so much history that it is never boring to revisit!
