Tuesday 8th December – 39th meeting of 2015
We met today for our last meeting of 2015 so, of course, it had to be a Christmas Lunch Meeting. We all descended on Coombe Lodge restaurant at Croydon at twelve o’clock for a drink before going to our table for lunch which was booked for one o’clock.
All nine of us were there and it was good to have some time to chatter before we went to our table which had been booked many weeks ago by one of our ladies. We were in the room called The Library which was lovely, nice and private so we could make a lot of noise without upsetting other guests.
The menu was very good of course Christmas Lunch, turkey with all the trimmings but also a very wide choice of steak, fish, burgers etc etc. We ordered and then cracked the crackers, put on the hats and read the jokes and sayings, some of which we managed to answer!
You will know if you have read this blog before that at Christmas we do a Secret Santa present. The conditions for the present is that it cost no more than £5 and that it is silly, funny, or a little saucy. This may sound easy but believe you me it can be the hardest present to buy! The gifts got opened one by one during the meal and there was a very wide range of items ranging from hats, mugs, gnomes, ponchos but the outright winner this year was a toilet brush in the shape of a gun! Very funny and caused a big laugh!
We had a great time, the food was lovely, the company fantastic and a good start to the Christmas celebrations. We said our goodbyes with all the Season’s Greetings and made our way home after a very enjoyable day.
We have had a very successful 2015. We have had 39 meetings and covered many areas such as museums, exhibitions, art exhibitions, many walks and a lovely holiday in Somerset. We will not meet until 2016 when we will meet to plan next year so all that is left for me to say is that we wish all our readers a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
