Tuesday 21st June – 24th meeting of 2016
Our plan to visit the exhibition at the Royal College of Physicians were put on hold as unfortunately due to holidays and illness there was only a few able to make it today. Instead we decided to make our way to Oxford Street and have a coffee in John Lewis and visit their roof garden which is only open during the summer.
When we reached the 5th floor we were told it was a special event for John Lewis customers only but as one of us was we were all allowed in. The lift up to the roof was decorated very effectively as a potting shed and on reaching the roof we were surprised at the lovely garden and the rosarium.
The Kitchen Garden featured lettuce, mangetout, spring onions and sugar snap peas among others and these are featured in the menus of the pop up
restaurant for each month with June being The Diary. The Herbarium had a lovely assortment of herbs including mint, rosemary, sage, thyme along with edible flowers.
Coffee and pastries were served and we sat next to an olive tree at one of the many table and chairs around and enjoyed the view of the gardens and the rooftop view of Oxford Street and beyond.
It was certainly worth a visit and as it is open all the summer it could be visited again.
We split up and after shopping made our way home.
